Lake Country Amateur Radio Service offers free training for individuals interested in obtaining their Technician Class (the entry level license) or upgrading to the General Class license. Classes are normally taught over two weekends, and culminate with an FCC examination testing session conducted by W5YI Volunteer Examiners (also LCARS members.) Classes are coordinated by our training committee Alan Champagne (NL7LR), and are taught by club members.
Training materials for the Technician Class license are provided to students free of charge, which may also be downloaded from this site. Students who are upgrading to the General Class license are encouraged to purchase the ARRL General Class License Manual, and supplement it with other training materials also available for downloading.
The only cost to a student is the FCC Examination Fee due at testing, and a small amount of time devoted to studying the materials and attending class. LCARS instructors enjoy a high student success rate for both classes. The training lectures are supported by PowerPoint presentations, demonstrations, and practical examples. No student questions are left unanswered and the material is understood. While they cannot guarantee a student will pass the examination, they will make every effort to ensure the student is prepared prior to the exam. There is no substitution for studying the materials and taking a few online practice examinations.
If you, or a group you are affiliated with, are interested in obtaining a ham radio license and entering the exciting hobby of Amateur Radio, please contact a club officer for more information.
