2010 Technician Class Graduates Twelve

May 23, 2010: The Lake Country Amateur Radio Service graduated twelve Technican Class amateur radio operators on May 23, 2010. The Technician Class license allows new ham radio operators the opportunity to operate on  the 10 meter band, and all frequencies above 30 MHz. New Technician Class operators can operate on the LCARS local radio repeaters, and participate in all club activities.  Thanks to Alan's (NL7LR) preparations, and assistance from Andy (KF4KBS), Sammy (K4MJO) and Eric (K4PYR) all training material was covered in two days. After a quick review of the material, the VE's administered and graded the examinations for  the candidates. Sammy will be watching for their callsigns to appear in the ULS database, and will notify each of the students of their new callsign. Please respond to these new hams when you hear them on the air. Thanks to Andy and his team of VEs for conducting the testing.

and very successful.

In the aftermath of 09/11, the Department of Homeland recommends that individuals volunteering with public safety agencies take Incident Command Systems (ICS) and National Incident Management Systems (NIMS). Additional free courses are available that cover subjects such as emergency communications, home and personal preparedness and safety, and other relevent topics. These courses are provided online, so students can fit them into their personal schedules, and college credits are available for successful completion. The best part is that each of these courses are ABSOLUTELY FREE! To register and take these courses, just go to the FEMA Independent Study Program and sign up. Look for ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-700 and ICS-800, which are the main courses for all emergency communicators and emergency responders. You are encouraged to take as many courses as you wish, and many courses provide some very good information that can be used every day.
